I celebrated by wearing sandals the other day, to the universal concern of all the French people in my town. An old man even stopped me in the street to make sure I wasn't too cold. I assured him I was fine.
I have noticed that French people seem to be very, very concerned with footwear warmth - don't try to go outside in sandals unless it's blazing hot, and don't even consider trying to be barefoot indoors in anything resembling winter. Maybe it's just my region? La charente is known for their slippers, after all.

I know exactly what you mean! Last week when it was 65 degrees without a cloud in the sky, I decided to head over the park to lie in the sun for a little bit. I was wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and sandals, and everytime I opened my eyes, I found a new gaggle of French people staring at me, slack-jawed and pointing. Need I mention that they were all wearing winter coats and scarves? Sometimes I stop trying to understand the French. It's not worth it.
