Snow day?

I had a tentative second snow day today.  Or I may have just totally not shown up for school.  I'm still not entirely sure.  It only snowed a little more last night, and the roads looked pretty clear, but as many people have told me, it does tend to ice up around here and people get nervous about that.  So I checked the bus website, again, and was told that although many lines were not running or were running differently, mine was "assurée".

Now, I've lived in France long enough to know that even though the dictionary may define assurer as "to guarantee", in actuality "ligne 1 assurée" has no meaning in any language.  I watched out my window as the pour souls of La Couronne waited for the bus in futility, one of them sticking it out for almost 45 minutes before giving up and walking off.  Assurée, my foot.

French version: Assurée?  Mon oeil!
So I tried to call the school, and had to leave a message.  I followed up with phone calls over the next 3 hours (about 5 phone calls total) and never got an answer.   Eventually the buses did start running again, and I tried one last time to call to see if they wanted me to come in a little late.  No answer.  So based on my keen powers of deduction, I will assume that they are not there today.  Considering my 6 attempts to get in touch with them, I feel like I made a big effort.  Also they haven't called me to ask me why I'm not there.  I know other schools were closed for snow today.  Hopefully mine was too.

Either way, I've been at work for a grand total of about 1.5 days this week, and only 6 of those hours have actually been spent teaching (the rest of the time was spent in the teachers' lounge, or eating lunch).   And as an added bonus, half of it was with the adults.  Yay!

I am definitely becoming a fan of snow - or at least, of snow days.
